Less Crap House

August 15th, 2008

Eivissa

Just back from Ibiza and the music was superb this year… less crap house = more fun.

Highlights:

1. Justice at Amnesia were unbelievable, they smashed it. Phillipe Zdar rocked up to play with them as well. And they finished with ‘Club Tropicana’. Word.

2. Seared red tuna at Sa Punta and scallops at Ama Lur. Mmmmm seafood.

3. Hearing the hypnotic ‘Township Funk’ by Mujava with 3000 other kids on the terrace at Amnesia. A true Balearic record (in the proper sense), it was a proper goosebumps moment.

4. Cala Jondal. What a beach.

5. Jesse Rose at Space dropped this bumpy, jackin, tribal number from the Music For Freaks label a few years back Tony Sengohre ‘This Is It’ whilst his collab with Action Man ‘Take it To The Club’ took the roof off also.

Keep on jackin.

Back In The Rave Dave

May 23rd, 2008

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us It’s great to see Dave ‘Switch’ Taylor back in in the rave with remixes of Mystery Jets and Late Of The Pier. The man who produced both of these bands is the lovely Erol Alkan who is rumoured to have hung up his producer hat for a while and is promising to get back in the rave by turning out some tasty remixes and dancefloor tackle. We cannot wait. Mystery Jets “Hideaway” (Switch Remix)

Machines Don’t Care

MACHINES DON’T CARE LOGO

Ooo ello. Loads of good music flying around which makes us happy! Mixmag 25th anniversary party was fun too with New Young Pony Club, Goldie, Hervé and Annie Mac doing great ‘classic’ sets. Christian found some limes in the kitchen at the venue and amused us all by dropping them and shouting ‘Drop The Lime’… hilarious, er really!

Erm talking of DTL.. Hervé, Sinden, Trevor Loveys, Fake Blood, Drop The Lime, Detboi, Toddla T and Affie Yusef have all collaborated on a project called Machines Don’t Care. This is the first time these artists will have appeared on a long-player so we are very excited…

It isn’t a concept album…. it won’t take you on a journey, it won’t tell a story, it is simply 11 banging club tracks!

Machines Don’t Care about dancing but these guys do. To hear the album sampler go to their player on myspace myspace.com/machinesdontcaremusic

For those of you hungry for a link here it is as a file!!

book club.. oh and an exclusive T2 remix by The Count

March 27th, 2008

last night

yup been reading books, i do that from time to time…..call me old fashioned. i like reading books on music and the industry. one such recent volume is ‘Kill Your Friends’ by John Niven in which he takes real life a+r types and blows up their habits and tastes into the realm of hyper real. a great read. Of course the cynicism he describes is REAL in major labels… how little regard they have for the music making process and the acts…. until they make them a lot of money of course. It got me thinking that dance music really did blow a lot of that away in its hay day (and of course punk did the same previously) so i have gone back to read ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Life’ to remind myself about what is good about music.

Dance music is back and doing the same today with a new breed of bedroom producers from the bassline scene … so i say a big ‘hurray’ to that indie mentality coming back into the charts i celebrate with an exclusive mix of the new T2 single ‘Heartbroken’ straight from the bedroom of The Count aka Hervé. Fake Blood on the dancefloor

February 25th, 2008

Sometimes a producer comes along that gets you get excited in the depth of your tummy tum tum with the potential of greatness and good times to come. One such producer is Fake Blood. His “Beeper” mix is excellent (talking of which here is a link to the “Beeper” vid) and now with his UNKLE remix he unleashes another monkey that will tear a hole in yo ass. Indeed. Ahem. Here it is

WOOHOO JEEP THRILLS YEAH!! WOW!! GO!! WHOOSH!!! ZOOM ZOOM!!!

HERE’S HOW YOU HAVE FUN IN A JEEP!! WOW!! YEAH!!

JEEP THRILLS!! YEAH!! ALRIGHT!!

on a similar note. our friend Hervé has just set up his own label. This is called Cheap Thrills. Which is different from jeep thrills as there are no jeeps involved, at all. It’s pretty much a base for him to put out music under all of his diferent alter ego’s, so expect some new music from Voodoo Chilli and.. Action Man (??!) along with other new acts that he signs up.

The first release is going to be a 4 track EP from The Count Of Monte Cristal. The C.O.M.C.’s buddypal Martelo put together a little teaser/minimix/mashup thingy for you lucky folks..

bump.

Birthdays, Beats and Bollards

December 11th, 2007

Saturday was made up of this. Numerous shots of Sambuca… the DJ getting the whole club to sing Happy Birthday to me… spilling a pint on the mixer whilst jumping about to “Organ Grinder”… sending my sister 88 blank text messages without realising… dancing with a bollard at a service station… waking up on Sunday feeling as if I was about to die… ouch! Luckily I’ve just moved into a flat 10 minutes walk from work so I can crawl in whilst listening to tunage that livens me up. Like this bomb from Mr Kris Menace “Steamroller” - I heard Erol Alkan play this at the Warehouse Project a couple of weeks back and it sounded immense. Go get it on Beatport.

weekeend anctics oh and Speaker Junk and Make Model tracks

December 3rd, 2007

We went to the Modular xmas knees up at Turnmills this weekend we did. There were models there and everything but we won’t mention who as we are bashful like that…. the one with the big face looked great in a military outfit tho… ah hem… You couldn’t get into the room The Mighty Boosh were playing in but it didn’t matter cos we were there to see The Count Of Monte Cristal and Sinden who ruled the main room. Tune of the night? Speaker Junk’s remix of Charlene Dance (with added choreography from the booth for full ‘ravers’ action)…
